Reviews
I'm reading the 5 th edition and find it useful as a Building Construction Engineer. I particularily like the upfront material on project planning. The book is not overly simplistic, nor unnecssarily complicated. It refers the reader to other sources that are useful tools as well. There is a mound of material since the book exceed 1000 pages. I highly recommend this book for a practicing professional or a greenhorn in the ICI building construction industry. I wouldn't pay $1000 for the book, but it is cetrainly worth a couple of hundred dollars. - Amazon Customer Review

This is a technical handbook that provides design and construction info for general building construction, especially commercial design.
While so much of civil engr handbooks concerns civil works and structures, this handbook is complementary. It has excellent summaries that are organized along 16 categories used in modern U S commercial building codes. For example, its sections on roofing systems, HVAC, electrical systems, etc. would not be found in civil engr handbooks nor covered as thoroughly in architectural handbooks.
The 2001 edition, purchased in 2004, was a bargain at less than $50. - Amazon Customer Review

I'm a big fan of this 6th edition. It is one of those "go to" resources -- containing a ton of information, intelligently organized, with hundreds of useful illustrations. 4.7 pounds!
Suggestion: click on the image and look at the Table of Contents. That will tell you a lot. - Amazon Customer Review
